Scott Cochems

Scott Cochems joined Farmers & Merchants State Bank in 2011 and has more than 20 years of commercial lending experience. As Senior Vice President of Commercial Lending, Scott is responsible for new business development and growing and maintaining the bank’s commercial loan portfolio while remaining a resource for local business owners.  Scott furthered his education by graduating from the Graduate School of Banking at UW Madison in 2015. Scott is also an active member of his community’s Rotary.
Scott was born and raised in the Madison area, which gives him a great understanding of that local market.  Scott enjoys the outdoors and cheering for the state’s sports teams.

Joshua Patterson

Josh brings nearly 20 years of banking experience and a relationship-first mindset to his role at F&M. As Senior Vice President and Senior Lender, he’s passionate about helping local families and businesses thrive through smart, community-focused lending solutions. Josh is actively involved in the local community, serving on multiple boards and leading service initiatives. Outside the bank, he enjoys time with his wife and four kids, coaching youth sports, camping, golfing, and rooting for his favorite Wisconsin teams.

Robert Helvey

In early 2024, Farmers & Merchants State Bank proudly welcomed Robert Helvey as Vice-President of Mortgage Lending. With over 25 years in the mortgage and banking industry, Robert brings expertise in sales, operations, and underwriting. A lifelong Wisconsin resident, he’s a proven leader known for innovative solutions, customer education, and community involvement. Robert is the Past-President of the Wisconsin Mortgage Bankers Association, an Ironman triathlete, and a UW-Whitewater graduate. He’s excited to enhance F&M’s mortgage services and help customers achieve their homeownership goals.

Heather Johnson

Heather Johnson joined Farmers & Merchants State Bank in 2026 as Vice President – Branch Market Manager, bringing more than 20 years of banking and leadership experience to the F&M team.

Throughout her career, Heather has built a strong reputation for relationship-focused banking, team leadership, and helping customers and businesses work toward their financial goals. Her background includes experience in branch leadership, business development, treasury management, and market growth, where she has successfully led teams, expanded customer relationships, and strengthened community connections.

At F&M, Heather serves an essential leadership role within the bank, supporting branch operations, customer experience, business development, and team growth across the communities we proudly serve.

Originally from Iowa and a graduate of the University of Iowa, Heather has been married for 20 years and is a proud mother of four and grandmother of eight. Outside of the bank, she enjoys golfing, spending time with family and friends, and volunteering with local organizations including the American Legion and VFW.

Heather is passionate about community banking and values the opportunity to build lasting relationships while helping customers and local communities thrive.
